DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA – Caron Treatment Centers, a nonprofit behavioral healthcare leader for almost 70 years dedicated to treatment, research, prevention and addiction medical education, announced the appointment of Javier Ley, DPC, as Executive Vice President, Caron Florida, and a member of Caron’s Executive Leadership Team. In this role, Dr. Ley will shape the direction of Caron’s Florida-based programs and facilities, including the renowned Ocean Drive, Renaissance and Older Adult Programs and The Keele Medical Center, which provides medical stabilization, residential programming and Neurorestorative Health Care services. Caron recently announced the expansion of its Neurorestorative Services with a 10-day Neurocognitive Assessment for individuals seeking to optimize their brain function.
Dr. Ley was most recently Executive Director for the Eastern Region at Hazelden Betty Ford, where he oversaw operations and programs in Naples, Florida; Chicago; and New York City.
“Dr. Ley understands the needs of patients and their families and the challenges they face when seeking treatment,” said John Driscoll, CEO of Caron Treatment Centers. “I have confidence in Javier, and I know he is the right person to lead our Florida Continuum as we grow our services in Florida to include insurance-friendly programming.”
A native of Nicaragua, Dr. Ley moved to Miami at the age of ten and has spent a large portion of his life in Florida. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Finance from the University of Florida and spent the early part of his career in banking, business and financial analysis. In long-term recovery himself, he felt inspired to work in addiction treatment and earned his master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. Mary’s University and his doctorate in Professional Counseling, Specialized in Addictions and Positive Psychology, from Mississippi College, the oldest institution of higher education in Mississippi. Dr. Ley later earned a second master’s in Healthcare Transformation from the University of Texas at Austin.
His professional journey in the behavioral health field began with him working as a therapist, first in Arizona and then with Hazelden Betty Ford in Center City, Minnesota, where he was quickly promoted to a Program Manager for residential services. He then moved into healthcare administration, working for Valley Hope Association in the Midwest U.S. as Senior VP of Operations before returning to Hazelden Betty Ford in a senior leadership role, and now to join Caron.
“Caron provides a full continuum of care in Florida — from detox, residential, and outpatient treatment rehab, to mental health treatment and addiction recovery support,” said Javier Ley, DPC. “Caron’s worldwide reputation is well deserved, and I am excited to be joining the Caron team. I am particularly enthusiastic for Caron’s investments in restorative brain health and all the possibilities. It is becoming increasingly clear that understanding the physical changes of the brain in addiction is equally as important as addressing the psychological aspects, and Caron is leading the industry in this area.”
“I have an entrepreneurial spirit,” continued Dr. Ley, “and I see great possibilities in building on the solid foundation here in Caron’s Florida Continuum. Caron has a 70-year history of changing lives, and I think it’s important to honor the past while still being able to move towards the future. I envision Caron continuing to focus on outcomes that matter to patients and their families, providing the best possible evidence-based care, investing in our people, our infrastructure, and our Mission.”
Dr. Ley will reside in the Boca Raton, Florida, area with his wife, Dr. Azalea Salmeron, and two daughters, where they hope to be active members in their new community.
