Caron Treatment Centers Launches Aviation Assessment Program

WERNERSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA; ATLANTA, GEORGIA —  Caron Treatment Centers, a leading, internationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives through addiction and behavioral healthcare treatment, research, prevention, and addiction medicine education, today announced that renowned addiction psychiatrist Navjyot Singh Bedi, M.D., has joined Caron as a Staff Addiction Psychiatrist and will lead Caron’s new Aviation Assessment Program. The Aviation Assessment Program, which will be based out of the Caron Atlanta Outpatient Center, is for aviation professionals referred by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for assessment of a potentially aeromedical disqualifying condition to evaluate for treatment and endorse return-to-work recommendations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Bedi to our team,” said John Driscoll, CEO of Caron Treatment Centers. “Dr. Bedi’s expertise and insights not only allow us to grow our medical team but also expand our specialized services to the aviation sector. Pilots and air traffic controllers operate under tremendous stress and regulation, and we’re excited to now serve this community.”

Dr. Bedi joins Caron from Talbott Recovery, where he served as the Medical Director and, as a HIMS-qualified psychiatrist, also oversaw its assessment and treatment program for pilots and aviation professionals. In addition, Dr. Bedi also serves as the National Psychiatrist for the NFL Substances of Abuse Program, a role he has held since 2020. He has been invited to speak internationally on topics such as addiction as a brain disease, treatment and recovery for pilots, and pilot mental health.

“Dr. Bedi’s extensive experience, especially with the HIMS program and aviation professionals, and his work with sports-related brain injury and substance use, will support our brain health and outcomes initiatives,” said Dr. Adam Scioli, D.O., DFAPA, FASAM, FAOAAM, Chief Medical Officer for Caron Treatment Centers. “Dr. Bedi will be an integral part of our interdisciplinary team as we continue to grow our neurorestorative programs and focus on treating substance use disorder and other mental health conditions at their source — the brain.”

Dr. Bedi trained as a physician at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, where he also completed a psychiatry residency. Dr. Bedi completed a second psychiatry residency in the U.S. at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was also a chief resident. He served as the medical director at Cherokee Mental Health Institute in Iowa. Dr. Bedi completed psychoanalytic training at the Philadelphia Psychoanalytic Institute and a fellowship in addiction psychiatry at Northwestern University. In addition to being a HIMS-qualified psychiatrist, Dr. Bedi has multiple certifications, including one in psychiatry and addiction psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and one in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM).
