As Congress continues its bi-partisan efforts to address the nation's addiction crisis, the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers has this week delivered to all members of Congress its recently released Addiction Treatment Provider Quality Assurance Guidebook: A Guide to the Core Competencies for the Delivery of Addiction Treatment Services (The Guidebook). The Guidebook is designed to improve the quality of addiction treatment and to ensure consumer protection. It was created in response to the devastating addiction crisis in our country that has been amplified by the entry of bad actors in the field who prey on vulnerable consumers.
The Guidebook sets forth, for the first time, the essential requirement for proficient and ethical addiction treatment operations. It does so by establishing nine core competencies to which all addiction treatment providers should comply by following the guidelines within each competency. Among the guidelines are clear direction that treatment providers engage in best practices, measure patient outcomes, and operate by rigorous ethical practices. All members of The National Association are required, as a condition of membership, to adhere to the Guidelines. NAATP encourages Congress to be informed by the Guidelines as it pursues legislation and regulation for all treatment providers.
