This workshop will introduce and discuss important terminology of suicide and suicidal behavior, and address challenging issues that therapists may face when working with suicidal populations. Participants will explore creative ways to discuss and explain suicidality to clients and families. Suicide risk assessment, treatment, and management will also be discussed.
Throughout the workshop, there will be art exploration activities to allow therapists to engage with the material and process potential biases in a non-threatening approach. Therapists do not have to be artistic in order to engage in this workshop.
During this workshop, participants will:
- Discuss terminology of suicide behavior
- Recognize risk and protective factors in suicidology
- Analyze own interpersonal experiences and biases when working with suicidal clients
