A FoRSE for Good: How NAATP’s New Science Foundation will Improve Quality

The measurement of recovery outcomes is essential for individualized and patient-centered care, quality improvement, benchmarking, and value-based care. The logistics of recovery outcome measurement is a challenge facing every addiction treatment and recovery support provider. The FoRSE Addiction Treatment Outcomes Program was created to support providers in this process. This session addresses the nuts and bolts of the Outcomes Program and invites providers and other stakeholders into this new data collaborative.

Annie Peters, PhD, LP, is NAATP’s Director of Research and Education and the Executive Director of FoRSE. Annie possesses a rare combination of scientific acumen, clinical experience, and a core understanding of the disease of SUD. She leads the national effort to further understand this disease through scientific research and create treatment solutions for those who suffer from it. Dr. Peters earned her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder and was formerly the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) of Harmony Foundation. Her clinical interests include integrated care for individuals with addiction and co-occurring disorders, and mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral psychotherapies.

Nick Hayes, PhD, works for Cumberland Heights Foundation as Chief Science Officer. Nick is tasked with the overall management of research, technology, and quality related initiatives system wide. His research is primarily focused on measurement-based practice systems, digital phenotyping, and intensive longitudinal monitoring. Nick obtained his PhD in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy (i.e., Systems Theory) from Texas Tech University. As a social scientist, Nick has advanced training in quantitative methods and intensive longitudinal monitoring techniques. Additionally, he holds a faculty position at Lipscomb University as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology.

Mike Petree M.A., is the founder of Petree Consulting Inc. (PCI), a consulting agency and software company that works with treatment providers, and national associations, to measure outcomes and monitor client progress. PCI provides the Remote Research Director service that is built on the Remote Research Director Dashboard (R2D2). Mike and his team host the NfORSE database and work with NAATP members to collect and contribute data to the national repository. He was formerly a research-minded mental health clinician who worked multiple providers to design and implement data collection and feedback systems to augment clinical programming.

Peter Thomas is the Quality Assurance Director for NAATP. He brings six years’ experience working in addiction treatment including roles in executive leadership and worked as the COO for Chapter 5 Counseling Center. Peter has dedicated much of his time to working with regulators to enhance access to quality behavioral healthcare. He served as President for the Northern Arizona Recovery Association and co-founded the Arizona Addiction Advocacy Coalition. Through these roles Peter assisted in drafting and passage of state legislation protecting consumers while also enhancing the efficacy and reputation of providers.
