Wernersville, PA – February 9, 2023 – Caron Treatment Centers, an internationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to addiction and behavioral healthcare treatment, research, prevention, and addiction medicine education, today announced that Bradley F. Sorte will step down as President and CEO of Caron, effective February 28, 2023. Effective March 1, 2023, Kristine Bashore, Chief Operating Officer, and David Rotenberg, Chief Clinical Officer, will share the duties of the Office of President and CEO as Caron undertakes a nationwide search for Sorte’s replacement.
Sorte emphasized the importance of prioritizing his family at this time, but reaffirmed his commitment to Caron, which he has served for over a decade. “I strongly believe in Caron’s mission, but now am of the belief that I can serve it better in a different capacity,” said Brad Sorte, Caron CEO and President. “I appreciate the Board and community support during my tenure. This was a very difficult decision, but I know that it is what’s best at this time. I will forever be appreciative of the opportunity to have been CEO of the organization that saved my life. I look forward to continuing to champion the Caron mission of Recovery for Life in this new chapter.”
Sorte will serve as a Senior Advisor to Caron through to August 31, both to ensure a smooth leadership transition and to continue his work on important external initiatives he has undertaken for Caron.
“We respect Brad’s decision to put his family first in his deliberations, and on behalf of the Caron community, I thank him for his wide-ranging contributions to Caron and the treatment field,” said Dr. Thomas F. Flynn, Chair of Caron’s Board of Trustees. “Brad was instrumental in the expansion of our services in Caron Florida and in the planning and the recent opening of The Keele Center, Caron Florida’s new 40-bed, 100,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art medical facility in Delray Beach. He has been instrumental in laying the groundwork for Caron’s future.”
“My fellow Board members and I express our appreciation to Kris and Dave for their past and future contributions to Caron,” continued Flynn. “We are fortunate to have two leaders with exceptional experience and devotion to Caron, including a combined 45+ years of service to the organization. We are confident in their leadership as well as in that of the executive team during this transition. A national search for a new CEO is being launched immediately.”
As Caron’s Chief Operating Officer, Kris Bashore oversees all operations, regional services, business development and marketing. Kris also leads Caron’s strategic planning efforts, including the development and execution of the most recent strategic plan, which focused on providing more patients and families with greater access to Caron. Since joining Caron in 2000, she has overseen many of Caron’s administrative and operational departments. She has been instrumental in building a robust human resources function with a focus on employee engagement and professional growth.
“We are fortunate that Caron has a new strategic plan in place. Dave and I, along with the leadership team, together with the Board, are committed to the initiatives and strategies we are working on today and planning for in the future,” commented Bashore.
As Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer, Dave Rotenberg oversees Caron’s clinical, medical, and psychological services. He is recognized throughout the industry as an expert in treating co-occurring mental health disorders, relapse, and family issues, and innovative approaches to the intervention and treatment of teens and young adults.
During his 23-year tenure at Caron, Dave has pioneered treatment approaches and developed gender-specific programs that emphasize cultural literacy as a key element in young adult behavioral health treatment.
“Caron is a strong organization with a significant history of clinical excellence and an extensive network of supporters and friends – all of whom support our mission. That remains truer today than ever,” said Rotenberg. “Caron will continue its focus on life-saving, patient-centric care. As patients seeking treatment present with complicated diagnoses, it’s essential that quality providers such as Caron combine evidence-based treatment with medicine, mental health modalities, pharmacogenetics, pharmacogenomics, trauma-informed techniques and innovations in relapse prediction.”
