Today is a day to celebrate and recognize our country’s progress toward equitable treatment of our citizens. We applaud Congress and the President on the bipartisan establishment of Juneteenth, celebrated today, as a federal holiday recognizing the end of slavery. We also take notice of our Supreme Court’s decision rejecting the third, and possibly final, assault on the Affordable Care Act, empowering Congress to move forward with the ACA to develop better and more equitable healthcare access for all. The ACA appropriately recognizes substance use disorder as an essential healthcare benefit, as we in the field strive to increase access and offer the best possible care.
